학명 에란티스 변산엔시스 (Eranthis byunsanensis B.Y. Sun)

속명 'Eranthis'는 봄꽃

라틴어 종명 'Pinnatifida'는 깃털 모양의 열편의 의미

한국 특산종으로, 학술적으로 알려지기 시작한 것은 1993년

전북대학교 교수 선병윤(宣炳崙)이 변산반도에서 채집해 한국 특산종으로 발표하였기 때문에, 학명도 발견지인 변산과 그의 이름이 그대로 채택되었다.
